Couplings at input end

Various couplings are used between the motor and gear unit. A popular option are claw couplings or fluid couplings, depending on the application and desired properties.

  • Compensation of a small axial, radial and angular misalignment between both coupling hubs
  • Due to their elastic properties, elastomers in the coupling connection dampen motor impacts and vibrations and thus reduce the gear unit load caused by the motor
  • Various designs, e.g. with a brake drum or brake disk
  • Delay chamber to reduce the motor starting torque for a gentle, reliable start-up of belt conveyors, bucket elevators or other systems with high inertia starting
  • Easy to assemble and disassemble (fluid coupling can be radially extended)
  • Optional monitoring device to detect overheating and stop system in time if needed
  • Various designs, e.g. with a brake drum or brake disk, which makes it possible to use a brake, low braking torque (since at input end)

Couplings on output side

Depending on customer requirements, various types of couplings are suitable for connecting the drive package to the customer's application shaft. In particular, these include pin, claw, gear and flange couplings.

  • Compensation of a small axial, radial and angular misalignment between both coupling hubs
  • Due to their elastic properties, elastomers in the coupling connection dampen motor impacts and vibrations and thus reduce the gear unit load caused by the motor
  • Compensation of the axial, radial and angular misalignment between both coupling hubs
  • Due to their elastic properties, elastomers in the coupling connection dampen motor impacts and vibrations and thus reduce the gear unit load caused by the motor
  • Torsionally rigid coupling
  • Compensation of the axial, radial and angular misalignment between both coupling hubs
  • Designed with keyed connection or cylindrical interference fit
  • Rigid transmission of forces

Drive packages on a steel construction

Swing bases, base frames or drive frames tailored to customer specifications offer the opportunity to house the drive components in a space-saving arrangement fully assembled on a steel construction.

  • A steel construction to accommodate the gear unit, (hydraulic) coupling and motor (and brake, if required), including safety devices such as guards.
  • Rigid connection to the customer shaft and flexible connection via the torque arm
  • The torque arm holds the drive package in place in a horizontal position and stops the drive package from rotating. All other forces are absorbed through the output shaft.
  • A steel construction to accommodate the gear unit, coupling and motor (and brake, if required), including safety devices such as guards.
  • Rigid connection to the floor
  • Connection to the customer shaft via an elastic coupling to avoid tension caused by static redundancy
  • The base frame is designed by SEW-EURODRIVE according to the respective customer specifications. It is designed to absorb order-specific, external forces and torques of the machine and to deflect them to the supporting structure.
  • Manufacturing of drive frames tailored to customer specifications

Brakes

A range of designs are available if brakes need to be used at the input end. A popular choice in this scenario are drum or disk brakes.

  • Ideally used as a holding brake to reliably hold e.g. a conveyor belt. In this example application, the belt is prevented from running backwards in the event of a stoppage
  • Monitoring devices to conduct functional testing of the operating status and avoid operating errors
  • Braking torque can be set over a wide area
  • Options: automatic wear adjustment, limit switch to release/apply brake, releasing lever with safety monitoring
  • Ideally used as a working brake to reliably brake e.g. a conveyor belt through different speeds until brought to a stop
  • Monitoring devices to conduct functional testing of the operating status and avoid operating errors
  • Automatic adjustment device for independent balancing of brake linings (in event of wear) for a constant braking torque and to maintain the brake function
  • Braking torque can be set over a wide area, avoiding overload caused by the brake
  • Timely stoppage of e.g. a conveyor belt in the case of consecutive belts, avoiding overfilling of the following belt
  • Options: automatic wear adjustment, limit switch to release/apply brake, releasing lever with safety monitoring

External oil supply and oil cooling systems

  • Oil cooling systems available as oil-air and oil-water coolers
  • Oil supply system in which the supply of oil is ensured by lubrication via a motor pump mounted externally onto the gear unit and unaffected by the gear unit speed
  • Different variants as a combination of oil supply system and oil cooling system to ensure supply to gear unit and for simultaneous (or switchable) cooling of the gear unit
  • Virtually unlimited increase of thermal ratings
  • Targeted reduction of the maximum oil bath temperature increases the service life of the oil
  • Robust gear wheel motor pump
  • Starting viscosity of up to 5000 cSt
  • SEW-EURODRIVE motors ensure high availability and flexibility
  • Virtually unlimited increase of thermal ratings

Central wiring of sensors on terminal box

  • All sensors for transmission monitoring as well as the sensors of the oil supply system are wired centrally on a predefined terminal box
  • No local wiring work; simple plug-and-play solution
  • Sensors can be preselected and thus selected according to requirements; the size of the terminal box is determined by the number of sensors installed
  • Flexible positioning of the terminal box due to spatial characteristics of the application or general customer requirements
  • IP66 or NEMA 4 protection in two housing variants for temperatures down to -20 degrees Celsius as well as -40 degrees Celsius.
  • Three different sizes in painted steel or stainless steel for the connection of up to eight sensors; the following dimensions are available:
    • 200 x 200 x 100 mm up to three sensors,
    • 300 x 200 x 100 mm for four to six sensors,
    • 400 x 200 x 100 mm for seven to eight sensors
  • Effective cable protection with hot-dip galvanized or stainless steel piping
